Aina Laura Errando
Biography
Aina is a PhD researcher at imec-SMIT since April 2023. With a background in journalism and communication, she has a master’s degree in Political Science: International and European Governance (VUB), an Advanced Master’s in European Integration (BSOG), and a Master’s in Digital and Data Journalism (Nebrija University). She has previous experience in several media as well as institutional communication
As part of the Media Economics and Policy Unit (MEP Unit), her research focuses on algorithmic gatekeepers and media strategies, exploring why and how algorithms are designed to fit and influence media consumption. With a passion for exploring the intersection of policy, technology, ethics, and journalism, she delves into the ethical implications of algorithmic gatekeeping in online news distribution.
As a PhD researcher in the ALGEPI project (understanding ALGorithmic gatekeepers to promote EPIstemic welfare), she works analysing some of the most pressing challenges facing the media industry today. Her PhD revolves around algorithms in media strategies, particularly within the realm of news recommender systems and news personalisation. Her work looks into how algorithms are used in the development and implementation of media strategies, and hence, how algorithms are employed by media.
