Dr. Marlen Komorowski

Prof Dr Marlen Komorowski is a Senior Researcher at the research centre imec-SMIT, VUB and Guest Professor for European Media Markets at Vrije Universiteit Brussels. She works additionally as Senior Research Fellow for the Media Cymru programme at Cardiff University. She is also an independent consultant and guest lecturer at various European universities and countries. In 2019, she finished her PhD in Media and Communication Studies at the VUB on media clusters and creative industries.

The creative and cultural sectors and especially the media sector represent a significant set of sectors that are developing in fast pace. Driven by these changes entirely new sectors have emerged (e.g., computer games, social media) and the industry is growing enormously profiting and being challenged by the technological advancements. This makes these industries not only very important for the economy and an interesting study object, but this makes the sectors especially divers and harder to grasp than ever.

As a senior researcher, Marlen Komorowski's work focuses on media and creative industries-related projects, industry clustering, economic geography, ecosystem and value network analysis, new business models and the impact of the digitization on industries and firms. Her expertise lies in quantitative research methods as well as statistics and advanced research methodologies while focusing on media economics.
