Dr. Pauljan Truyens
Biography
Pauljan Truyens obtained his PhD at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), under the supervision of Professor Ike Picone and Professor Karen Donders. His thesis titled 'The Journalism-Audience Relationship through the Prism of Norms and Roles' explored how this complex relationship can be studied and improved. His PhD-research was part of the VUB-Roularta Chair on 'Personalisation, Trust and Sustainable news media'.
Pauljan's research entails the study of the role(s) of journalism, both from a journalism and audience perspective. In this way, he explores how to improve the news landscape. Pauljan is working mainly as a researcher for the Knowledgecenter on media: Mediapunt. He is also involved in the European project ReMeD, in which, together with colleagues from SMIT, he investigates strategies in which users coop with toxic news. With the nieuwsgebruik.be-team, he analyses and interprets the Flemish (Belgium) Digital News Report data.
