Koen Borghys
Biography
Koen Borghys is a PhD Researcher who specialises in the monitoring of progress by public and private local actors within the Brussels Capital Region as they pursue the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). At SMIT, Koen applies his expertise in smart cities, data-driven policymaking an sustainable development.
Koen's professional journey began as a lawyer advising tech companies and venture capital funds. Later, he transitioned to advising local governments on smart city and open data strategies. Koen holds a Master of Laws and a Master of Science in General Economics (Cum Laude) from Ghent University.
His PhD project titled ‘Data Driven Coaching of Local Communities in Achieving SDG Goals’ is an applied PhD project conducted in partnership with IDEA Consult and funded by the Brussels Capital Region (Innoviris).
