Prof. Dr. Antonis Kalogeropoulos
Biography
Antonis acquired a PhD in Political Communication from the University of Southern Denmark. His doctoral work focused on the effects of exposure to economic news on political attitudes and citizens' knowledge. His background is in Communication and Mass Media (BA from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in Greece) and in Corporate Communication (MSc from the University of Manchester in the UK). He has also worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at the University of Oxford where he was part of the research team behind the annual Digital News Report. He has done research visits at the University of Amsterdam, the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Minnesota.
Antonis is primarily interested in the changing ways we consume news and political information online. His research topics include news avoidance, trust in news, online misinformation, and the use of mobile messaging apps. He is leading the ERC Starting Grant project INEQNEWS examining social inequalities in digital news consumption across four countries. He is affiliated as a Research Associate with the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at the University of Oxford where he is part of the Digital News Report. He is also affiliated as External Research Fellow with the Digital Democracy Center at the University of Southern Denmark and as a Research Associate with the Centre for Digital Politics, Media & Democracy of the University of Liverpool.
