Dennis Vanden Auweele

Dennis Vanden Auweele is an ethicist who defended his dissertation on 'pessimism' at KU Leuven and has since held academic positions at KU Leuven and RU Groningen. From 2021 onwards, he worked predominantly as a policy-oriented researcher and policy officer at the Flemish Peace Institute, the University of Hasselt and the Flanders Human Rights Institute. He has joined the VUB's Knowledge Centre Data & Society in April 2026.

Dennis Vanden Auweele academic research focused on ethical questions related to societal transformations, often with a strong historical focus. At the Knowledge Centre Data & Society, he works on ethical and legal issues related to our use of data, the digital transformation of society and the increasing use of AI and automatic decision-making.
