Ibe Delvaux

Ibe Delvaux is a researcher in Communication Sciences specialising in the relationship between individual and institutional environmental action, with a particular focus on the role of communication. Her research examines how governments, environmental organisations, and citizens understand and negotiate environmental responsibility, and how these interpretations shape behaviour, public engagement, and support for collective action. 

Her PhD investigates how environmental responsibility is communicated, attributed, and evaluated across these actors. In particular, she examines how government action and systemic interventions influence public perceptions, and how citizens understand their own responsibilities in relation to those of governments and other powerful institutions. 

Her work situates communication within a complex information environment in which citizens encounter competing messages, political cues, media representations, and institutional actions that are not always directly visible. Using a mixed-methods approach, she studies how people interpret these signals, assess whether governments are fulfilling their responsibilities, and negotiate the relationship between individual behaviour change and systemic action. 

Her broader research interests include environmental communication, behavioural public policy, government communication, and the institutional–individual nexus. Her methodological expertise includes qualitative interviews, qualitative and quantitative content analysis, surveys, and experimental research.
