Dr. Ivana Kostovska
Biography
Ivana Kostovska is a media economics researcher in the Media Economics and Policy unit. She holds a Media Management MA from the University of Westminster. Her research is focused on understanding the impact of the ongoing changes in the European film and television industries driven by the rise of global streaming services and platforms. In her research, she examines the shift of policy measures at EU and national levels and their impact on the film and television industries. Her recent work focuses on the investment obligations for global streamers to contribute to the production of European works, as well as the contractual relationships between AV producers and financiers (broadcasters and streamers).
She is involved in contract research for various stakeholders, including the European Commission and the Flemish Administration for Culture, Youth, Sports and Media. Ivana has authored publications in edited volumes and peer-reviewed journals on the regulation of streaming services and video-sharing platforms, as well as on the use of blockchain in the film industry. She served on the European Media Management Association Board (2021-2022). She has also been invited to give lectures at the VUB and at different universities.
She is involved in the EU Horizon project CresCine (Increasing the International Competitiveness of European film industries). In the project she leads and contributes to tasks centered on film export and VOD distribution.
