Paul Hammoud
Biography
Paul holds a Master’s degree from the University of Geneva, specialising in European economics and politics. In that regard, he did a traineeship at the EU Delegation to UNESCO and OECD in Paris where he worked, among others, on issues related to cultural heritage, cultural and creative industries and human rights. Prior to joining SMIT, Paul worked as a Research Assistant at the Group for Research and Information on Peace and Security (GRIP), where he conducted research and analysis on peacekeeping operations and EU policies for election observation missions. He then worked as a Project Manager for a social and solidarity network, managing EU-funded projects and conducting research on cultural and creative industries.
His primary research areas and professional focus revolve around understanding and analysing the dynamics of film distribution and policy within a global and European context. With a keen interest in EU policies and the audiovisual industry, he is dedicated to fostering a more vibrant and resilient European film landscape. Through his work, he aims to encourage cultural enrichment while also promoting economic prosperity within the European film industry.
Paul is currently working on the CresCine project that aims to increase the international competitiveness and cultural diversity of the film industry in small European markets (Horizon Europe, 2023-2026), in collaboration with a large consortium of professionals from the film industry and researchers from other European universities.
